What is: Phishing

Phishing is the attempt to trick people into revealing passwords or data, or opening a malicious file or link, usually through a fake email that looks genuine.

It is the #1 way into a business. Messages imitate banks, suppliers or colleagues and create urgency so you click in a hurry.

The defence is twofold: technical (anti-phishing filters, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, MFA) and human (training and simulation exercises).
